The "Mountain and Water" Baijiu is not merely a beverage; it is an experiential journey through the stages of consumption—tasting, tipsy, and drunk. Jing Chen's design draws from the philosophical progression of understanding mountains, paralleling the deepening insights into life with each sip. This packaged liquor transcends its physical form to become a medium for reflection and enlightenment, urging consumers to ponder the ebbs and flows of existence.
Distinctive in its approach, the "Jian Shan Jian Shui" packaging is a testament to Jing Chen's ingenuity. The anthropomorphic wine bottle and skeuomorphic box design resonate with the project's thematic essence, creating a synergy between the consumer, the liquor, and the encompassing experience. The unique opening mechanism and use of materials set this design apart, while its sustainable packaging approach underscores a commitment to environmental consciousness.
Realized through meticulous craftsmanship, the glass bottle is adorned with ceramic ink and silver plating, capped with a walnut wood and cork combination. The wine box, a dark blue special paper mounted on density fiberboard, is sealed with a red gold scalded seal, and the interior cradles the bottle in a light blue velvet sponge. The design's technical specifications eschew traditional printing for a tactile white touch paper, with red and black gold accents applied through cold pressing.
Interacting with "Jian Shan Jian Shui" is an encounter with serenity. Upon breaking the seal and unveiling the package, the bottle stands central, reminiscent of a sage in a leaf boat, an image steeped in Zen. This presentation not only captivates but also serves as a profound display of the product's philosophical underpinnings.
Conceived in Changsha, the project spanned from June 2022 to February 2023 and swiftly garnered acclaim, clinching the Gold Award in the American Muse Packaging category in April 2023. The design's research delved into the symbiosis of traditional liquor and Chinese culture, targeting connoisseurs with an affinity for intellectual and cultural depth.
Overcoming the intricate challenge of aligning product with brand, and both with culture, Jing Chen's design philosophy reflects a contemporary shift towards environmentally responsible and culturally resonant packaging. The "Jian Shan Jian Shui" is not only a Golden A' Design Award winner but a beacon of sustainable innovation, personalization, and the future of green packaging trends.
